September 7: Exit Slip
One concept that echoes around many questions in this class is the diversity of learning processes. There are multiple ways to teach a math concept, because everyone has a different way of understanding and learning new things. The statement my group has is "a good teacher should never confuse you". It is true that the math concepts themselves are not ambiguous. However, the diversity in learning processes makes the learning of math concepts "ambiguous". We, as teachers, could come up with several methods so that the students can find one that suits best for them. Even though this could be "confusing" to some students, hopefully they would realize that the underlying principle is the same. At the same time, they would learn how to adapt to different teaching methods. The diversity of learning processes also debunk the myth of "you cannot learn from you mistakes" for those mistakes could simply be an unsuitable learning method for the student. Using an alternative learning method could achieve a better understanding towards the material. By recognizing the diversity of learning processes, we will teach more effectively.
